Installation
Runtime baseline
Section titled “Runtime baseline”The official Ghidra 12.1.4 README requires a 64-bit JDK 21. Gradle is a source-build requirement, not a requirement for running a packaged desktop release. The tagged application.properties sets Java compiler/minimum 21 and minimum Gradle 8.5.
java -versionConfirm that this resolves to the intended JDK. Multiple Java installations can cause a launcher to select a different runtime.
Install a published build
Section titled “Install a published build”- Read the release’s platform and runtime requirements.
- Download its packaged application asset, rather than GitHub’s source archive.
- Verify its published checksum or signature when provided.
- Extract into a fresh directory; avoid overlaying another installation.
- Use the launcher documented for that artifact.
- Open a disposable project first and inspect the version in About.
For the upstream baseline, the launchers are ghidraRun and ghidraRun.bat. VERIFY Opcodex replacements before using those names for an Opcodex package.
Building instead
Section titled “Building instead”Upstream also needs Gradle 8.5+, Python 3.9–3.14 with pip, and platform native build tools. These are release-specific requirements. Read the pinned README build section rather than applying requirements from the development branch.
